About Kylian Mbappé
Kylian Mbappé is the defining footballer of his generation — a phenomenon who won the World Cup at 19, became PSG's all-time top scorer, and then fulfilled his childhood dream of joining Real Madrid on a free transfer in 2024. His combination of explosive pace, technical brilliance and clinical finishing make him one of the most feared forwards in history.
Kylian Mbappé's story
World Cup Prodigy
Mbappé burst onto the world stage at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, where a two-goal round-of-16 display against Argentina announced a talent the tournament had not seen in decades. His hat-trick against Argentina in the 2022 final — despite France losing on penalties — was one of the greatest individual performances in World Cup history. He enters 2026 as France captain and the player every nation fears most.
Real Madrid at Last
Mbappé had long been expected to join Real Madrid before finally signing on a free transfer from PSG in 2024 — one of the most anticipated moves in football history. After an injury-affected start he found his rhythm to lead the line as one of the tournament's most feared attackers.
Bondy, and the Making of a Prodigy
Mbappé was born on 20 December 1998 in Paris and raised in Bondy, a suburb in the Seine-Saint-Denis department northeast of the city. His father, Wilfried, born in Cameroon, coached at the local club AS Bondy, where Kylian first played; his mother, Fayza Lamari, of Algerian descent, was a professional handball player before becoming her son's manager and lead negotiator. As a boy his bedroom walls were covered in posters of Cristiano Ronaldo, the player he would later be compared to and eventually face across multiple World Cups. He trained at Clairefontaine, France's national football academy, before joining AS Monaco's academy at 14, where in December 2015 he broke a club youngest-debut record previously held by Thierry Henry.
The Family Business
Mbappé has described his parents as the two people most responsible for his career: Wilfried built the footballer on Bondy's pitches, while Fayza built the empire around him, managing his contracts and public profile through his rise at Monaco, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid. The family has put some of his earnings back into Bondy, funding youth football and community projects in the banlieue that raised him. Fiercely private beyond football, he still owns a Paris apartment from his PSG years and, since 2024, a home in La Finca, a gated community in Pozuelo de Alarcón outside Madrid.
France's Record Breaker
Mbappé's brace against Iraq on 22 June 2026 brought up his 100th cap for France. By the France-Morocco quarter-final on 9 July 2026 he had become his country's all-time leading scorer, with 64 international goals, and the all-time leading scorer in World Cup knockout-stage history. By the end of the tournament he had passed Lionel Messi to top the World Cup's all-time scoring list. France's run ended in the semi-final, beaten 2-0 by Spain in Dallas on 14 July 2026, meaning Mbappé's tournament finished one goal short of the outright scoring record he had spent the tournament chasing.
