About Davor Šuker

Davor Šuker is Croatia's greatest ever goalscorer and the winner of the 1998 World Cup Golden Boot — scoring 6 goals as Croatia reached 3rd place in their first-ever World Cup as an independent nation. He won La Liga and the Champions League with Real Madrid. His left foot and composure made him one of the most elegant strikers of the 1990s.

Davor Šuker's story

Osijek's Elegant Striker

Šuker was born in Osijek in what was then Yugoslavia. He joined Dinamo Zagreb (CRO) and became the best striker in Yugoslav football before Croatia's independence. He joined Sevilla (ESP) and established himself in La Liga before Real Madrid signed him in 1996.

France 98

The 1998 World Cup in France was Šuker's defining moment. Croatia, in their first World Cup as an independent nation, reached the semi-finals. Šuker scored 6 goals — including a technically extraordinary chip over German goalkeeper Oliver Kahn — to win the Golden Boot. His 40th-minute goal against Germany in the quarter-final remains one of the most celebrated goals in Croatian football history.

Real Madrid and Legacy

Šuker won La Liga and the Champions League with Real Madrid in 1998. He later became President of the Croatian Football Federation — overseeing the generation that produced Luka Modrić, Mario Mandžukić, and Ivan Rakitić, who reached the 2018 World Cup final.
