Sepp van den Berg's story
PEC Zwolle & Liverpool Signing
Born in Zwolle on 20 December 2001, van den Berg made his senior debut for PEC Zwolle on 11 March 2018 aged just 16. His performances attracted Liverpool (ENG), who signed him in June 2019 for £1.3m.
Loan Development
Van den Berg spent his five years at Liverpool (ENG) entirely on loan. He made 66 appearances across two loan spells with Preston North End, followed by stints in Germany with Schalke 04 and FSV Mainz 05, where he developed into a polished ball-playing defender before Brentford (ENG) came calling.
Brentford Arrival
Brentford (ENG) signed van den Berg in August 2024 for an initial £20m (rising to £25m with add-ons), which included a 17.5% sell-on clause for Liverpool (ENG). He immediately established himself as a key defensive pillar at the Gtech Community Stadium.
