About Alexander Isak
Alexander Isak is a Swedish striker known for his composure, movement and clinical finishing. He established himself as one of the Premier League's most feared forwards at Newcastle United before a British-record transfer took him to Liverpool in 2025.
Alexander Isak's story
Roots in Stockholm
Alexander Isak was born in Stockholm on 21 September 1999 and raised nearby in Solna, the youngest of six children. His father, Teame Isak, an educator, had settled in Sweden after leaving Eritrea in the late 1980s. Isak joined boyhood club AIK's academy as a child.
A role model close to home
Isak's biggest early influence was Henok Goitom, a fellow Solna-born striker of Eritrean descent whose father was friends with Isak's. Goitom's return to AIK in 2012 gave Isak a role model inside his own academy, years before pundits began comparing him to Zlatan Ibrahimović.
Breaking through
After a loan season in the Netherlands and three years starring for Real Sociedad, Isak signed for Newcastle United in 2022 for a club-record fee. He became one of the Premier League's most feared forwards there, scoring 62 goals in 109 appearances and winning the EFL Cup in March 2025, Newcastle's first trophy since 1955.
A record move, then a setback
Isak's Newcastle exit turned into a public transfer saga in August 2025 before a British-record move to Liverpool that September. A serious ankle and fibula fracture, suffered in a December 2025 tackle, wrecked much of his first season at Anfield and required surgery, keeping him out for months.
Back in form, and at the World Cup
By the 2026-27 season Isak was fit again and firing for both Liverpool and Sweden, closing the gap between his early promise and the price tag that brought him to Anfield.
A philosopher on the pitch
Teammates describe Isak as reserved and reflective; in a 2020 interview he credited reading Stoic philosophy with helping him handle pressure, saying "I love the Stoics." In 2018 he made his first trip back to Eritrea, his father's homeland, since early childhood, visiting grassroots football projects in Asmara and telling local media, "It's good to be home."
