About Alisson
Alisson Becker is a Brazilian goalkeeper who has been Liverpool's last line of defence since 2018, winning Premier League titles in 2019-20 and 2024-25 plus the FA Cup and League Cup double of 2021-22. Born in Novo Hamburgo on 2 October 1992, he was named The Best FIFA Men's Goalkeeper and won the inaugural Yashin Trophy in 2019, the same year he lifted the Copa América with Brazil.
Alisson's story
Goalkeeping runs in the family
As a boy, Alisson fired shots at his father José Agostinho, who pretended to be Brazil great Taffarel and used the gap under the family sofa as his goal. Older brother Muriel, five years his senior, went on to keep goal for Internacional and won the 2010 Copa Libertadores. Alisson joined the same academy in 2002, aged ten.
Porto Alegre breakthrough
He made his senior Inter debut on 17 February 2013 against Cruzeiro-RS and first played in Série A on 25 August 2013 against Goiás. By 2015 he was first choice, playing 57 games that year, and he won the Campeonato Gaúcho in each of his four seasons.
Serie A's best
Roma signed him for a reported €7.5 million in 2016. He spent his first season as understudy to Wojciech Szczęsny, then took the gloves in 2017-18, keeping 22 clean sheets and being named Serie A Goalkeeper of the Year. That Roma side reached the Champions League semi-finals, where Liverpool knocked them out.
Record move to Anfield
Liverpool signed him on 19 July 2018 for a reported £66.8 million, a world record for a goalkeeper until Chelsea bought Kepa Arrizabalaga four weeks later. He kept a clean sheet on his debut against West Ham on 12 August 2018, and made eight saves in the 2-0 Champions League final win over Tottenham in Madrid on 1 June 2019.
The header
His father drowned in a lake near Lavras do Sul on 24 February 2021. On 16 May 2021, Alisson went up for a stoppage-time corner at The Hawthorns and headed the winner in a 2-1 victory over West Brom. It was the first competitive goal by a Liverpool goalkeeper and the first headed goal by a goalkeeper in the Premier League. He dedicated it to his father.
