About David Silva
David Silva — "El Mago" (The Magician) — is Manchester City's greatest ever player and one of the finest creative midfielders in Premier League history. He spent 10 seasons at City, winning four Premier League titles, two FA Cups, and five League Cups. He also won the 2010 World Cup and two European Championships with Spain. He is the most decorated Spanish footballer in Premier League history.
David Silva's story
Gran Canaria's Gift
Silva was born in Arguineguín, a small fishing town in Gran Canaria — the Canary Islands. He joined Valencia (ESP)'s youth academy at 14, making a journey that took him from one of Spain's most isolated football communities to its most successful. Valencia (ESP) loaned him to Eibar and Celta Vigo before integrating him into the first team.
City's Magician
Silva signed for Manchester City in 2010 — the summer after Spain won the World Cup — and immediately transformed the club. Under Roberto Mancini, then Manuel Pellegrini, then Pep Guardiola, he was the creative heartbeat of every team — a player so naturally gifted that managers built systems around his ability to receive the ball under pressure and release it with precision.
Mateo's Battle
In late 2017, Silva's partner gave birth to their son Mateo prematurely. Mateo spent months in intensive care. Silva commuted between Manchester (ENG) and Valencia (ESP) to be with his son while continuing to play. The club supported him throughout. Mateo survived. Silva's public expression of gratitude — and his quiet dignity throughout — made him one of the most loved figures in Premier League history.
