About Dino Zoff
Dino Zoff is one of the greatest goalkeepers in football history — a World Cup winner in 1982 as captain at age 40, the oldest outfield player to captain and lift a World Cup. He kept goal for Juventus for 15 seasons, winning six Italian league titles, and holds the world record for international matches without conceding a goal (1143 minutes). His calm authority was the foundation of Italian football's greatest defensive traditions.
Dino Zoff's story
Mariano del Friuli's Keeper
Zoff was born in Mariano del Friuli, a small town in the Friuli region. He was rejected by Internazionale as a young man for being too small. He joined Udinese and worked his way through Italian football before Juventus signed him in 1972.
The World Record
Between June 1972 and June 1974, Zoff did not concede a single international goal — a period of 1143 minutes in which Italy won 12 consecutive matches. The record was eventually ended by Haiti — of all nations — at the 1974 World Cup.
1982 World Cup
Zoff captained Italy to the 1982 World Cup at age 40 — becoming the oldest goalkeeper to win the tournament and the oldest player to have captained and lifted the trophy. Italy's victory — including wins over Argentina and Brazil before beating West Germany 3-1 in the final — was the defining tournament success of Zoff's career.
