About Mikkel Damsgaard

Mikkel Damsgaard is a Danish attacking midfielder who burst onto the world stage at Euro 2020, becoming Denmark's youngest scorer in European Championship history. After coming through Nordsjælland and developing at Sampdoria, he joined Brentford (ENG) in 2022. A knee injury set back his development but he returned to his best in 2025-26, scoring 3 Premier League goals in 27 appearances.

Mikkel Damsgaard's story

Nordsjælland & Sampdoria

Born in Jyllinge on 3 July 2000, Damsgaard made his senior debut for Nordsjælland on 27 September 2017 aged 17 in a Danish Cup match. He signed a pre-contract with Sampdoria in January 2020 for a reported €6.8m, where he developed into one of Europe's most exciting young midfielders.

Euro 2020 Breakthrough

Damsgaard became a global star at Euro 2020, scoring against Russia in the group stage to become Denmark's youngest ever goalscorer at a European Championship aged 20 years and 353 days. He also scored Denmark's historic free-kick goal in the semi-final against England — the tournament's only direct free-kick goal.

Brentford & Injury

Brentford (ENG) signed Damsgaard in August 2022 on a five-year contract for approximately £7m. A serious knee injury in 2023 cost him nearly four months and disrupted his development, but he returned stronger in 2025-26. He has 40 Denmark caps and 8 international goals, having featured at Euro 2020, the 2022 World Cup and Euro 2024.
