About Oliver Kahn
Oliver Kahn — "Der Titan" — is the only goalkeeper ever to win the Golden Ball at a World Cup, awarded to him as the best player at the 2002 tournament despite Germany finishing as runners-up. He was the most intimidating goalkeeper of his generation: aggressive, loud, and technically supreme. He spent 14 years at Bayern Munich (GER), winning 8 Bundesliga titles.
Oliver Kahn's story
Der Titan
Kahn grew up in Karlsruhe and joined the local club's academy. His nickname "Der Titan" — the Titan — was earned through sheer force of personality as much as technical ability. He was the most physically and vocally dominant goalkeeper of his generation, routinely screaming instructions and intimidating opponents from his six-yard box.
Bayern's Wall
At Bayern Munich (GER) he was essentially immovable for 14 seasons, winning 8 Bundesliga titles and the Champions League in 2001, where he saved three penalties in the shootout against Valencia (ESP). His rivalry with the younger Jens Lehmann for the Germany No.1 jersey was one of German football's defining controversies.
The Golden Ball
At the 2002 World Cup, despite Germany losing the final to Brazil, Kahn was awarded the Golden Ball as the tournament's outstanding player — the only time a goalkeeper has ever won this award. After retiring in 2008, he became a TV pundit, then joined Bayern Munich (GER)'s board, serving as CEO from 2021–2023.
