About Weston McKennie
Weston McKennie is the most physically imposing midfielder the United States has produced, a powerful box-to-box player whose energy, aerial ability and goal scoring from midfield make him one of the USMNT's most important players. He signed a new contract with Juventus in March 2026 through 2030 after a career-best 2025-26 season, and started every match as USA captain at the 2026 World Cup.
Weston McKennie's story
From Texas to Turin
McKennie grew up between Fort Lewis, Washington, and Kaiserslautern, Germany, where his family lived from age six to nine while his father, a United States Air Force officer, was stationed at nearby Ramstein Air Base. He came through the FC Dallas academy before moving to Schalke 04 at 18, was outstanding in Germany, and earned a loan, then permanent move, to Juventus in 2020. His time in Turin was a crash course in one of the world's most demanding football environments, interrupted only by a 2022-23 loan at Leeds United, before he returned to Juventus and re-signed a new contract through 2030 in March 2026.
A Historic Rise at Juventus
McKennie became Juventus' first-ever American player in August 2020, initially on loan, before the club made the move permanent for β¬18.5m in March 2021. Serie A journalists have compared his ball-winning, box-to-box game to former Juventus midfielders Edgar Davids and Arturo Vidal, and head coach Luciano Spalletti has even used his versatility to field him as an emergency striker.
America's Midfielder
In the US midfield, McKennie provides the physical platform that allows the team's other creators to attack, and his heading ability from corners and free kicks adds a dimension the USMNT previously lacked. Head coach Mauricio Pochettino relied on him as a senior on-field leader throughout the 2026 World Cup on home soil, where he started and captained every match he played.
Magic, Faith and Giving Back
McKennie is known across the Juventus and USMNT dressing rooms for his personality as much as his energy on the pitch, and balances the demands of a Serie A season with a charitable foundation and brand partnerships back home in the United States. He has spoken openly about his Christian faith as central to how he approaches both football and life away from it.
