Beth Mead's story
Yorkshire Star
Beth Mead was born on 9 May 1995 in Whitby, North Yorkshire. She played youth football in the northeast of England and joined Sunderland's development programme before moving to Arsenal in 2017. Her directness, pace, and eye for goal quickly made her one of the WSL's most exciting attackers.
EURO 2022 Golden Boot
The summer of 2022 belonged to Beth Mead. At the Women's European Championship on home soil, she was electrifying — scoring six goals and providing five assists as England won the trophy for the first time. She won the Golden Boot and was named Player of the Tournament. The final against Germany at Wembley drew 87,192 fans and a TV audience of 17.4 million.
ACL Setback & Return
In November 2022, just months after her Euro triumph, Mead suffered a serious ACL injury that kept her out until late 2023. She missed the 2023 Women's World Cup — a devastating blow for England, who reached the final without her. She returned to play for Arsenal in late 2023 and has worked to regain her best form.
Arsenal & Relationship
Mead has been in a relationship with Arsenal and England teammate Vivianne Miedema since 2020 — the couple are one of the most high-profile partnerships in women's football. Mead is a popular and warm personality who has spoken openly about her relationship and her mental health journey following her ACL injury.
