From Brazil to Europe
Gabriel came through Avaí FC's academy in southern Brazil before moving to Europe as a teenager. He spent time in the French lower leagues before joining LOSC Lille (FRA) in 2019, where he developed rapidly under the guidance of Christophe Galtier. Lille (FRA)'s defensive organisation allowed Gabriel to thrive, and his performances earned him a move to Arsenal in the summer of 2020 for £27 million.

Under Mikel Arteta, Gabriel has been transformed from a promising young defender into one of the most complete centre-backs in the Premier League. His left foot gives Arsenal a natural left-sided option, his reading of the game has improved enormously, and his ability to score from corners and free-kicks adds a genuine extra dimension.
