About Lauren Hemp
One of the most exciting players in women's football, Lauren Hemp is a pacy, direct left winger who has been central to both Manchester City's WSL campaigns and England's continued success — a player of electric pace and composure who seems destined for the very top.
Lauren Hemp's story
Norfolk to the City
Lauren Hemp was born on 7 August 2000 in North Walsham, Norfolk — a rural part of England not traditionally associated with elite women's football. She came through Bristol City's academy before Manchester City signed her in 2018, identifying her as one of English football's brightest prospects.
City's Winger
At Manchester City, Hemp has developed into one of the WSL's most consistent wide players. At 160 cm she is compact but deceptively strong, and her low centre of gravity makes her extremely difficult to stop once she has pace behind her. She has scored goals and contributed assists at an impressive rate for a player still in her early 20s.
Lionesses Lioness
Hemp was part of England's Euro 2022-winning squad and the 2023 World Cup finalist team — one of several young England players whose trajectory suggests a bright future for the national team. Her performances for England have been consistently impressive; she is often at her best on the international stage.
The Future
Still only 24, Hemp has her peak years ahead of her. She is already established as one of the WSL's best wide players and has represented England at a World Cup final. The combination of her natural talent, work ethic, and technical quality suggests she will be a major player in women's football for the next decade.
