About Morgan Gibbs-White
Morgan Gibbs-White is Nottingham Forest's creative heartbeat and, by 2026, one of the Premier League's most dangerous attacking midfielders. A £42.5m club-record signing from Wolves in 2022, he found a new level under Vítor Pereira, finishing 2025-26 as Forest's top scorer with a personal-best 15 league goals. An England international and a two-time youth champion, he turned down Tottenham in 2025 to stay at the City Ground.
Morgan Gibbs-White's story
Stafford Juniors to the Wolves Academy
Born in Stafford on 27 January 2000 and of Jamaican descent, Gibbs-White started out at Stafford Juniors, where he was moved up to play years above his age before Wolverhampton Wanderers signed him at eight. He spent well over a decade in their academy. His own mantra, that "my hard work would beat other people's talent", carried him through a tricky growth-spurt spell under Wolves youth coach Scott Sellars, whose sparing praise he learned to read as approval.
The Steve Cooper Thread
In 2017 he won the FIFA Under-17 World Cup with England, scoring in the final under a coach named Steve Cooper. Five years later that same Cooper, by then Nottingham Forest's manager, made Gibbs-White his marquee signing on the club's return to the Premier League. He added a second youth title in 2023, scoring in the semi-final as England won the Under-21 European Championship.
The Loan That Changed Everything
A first loan at Swansea City in 2020-21 gave him a taste of senior football, but it was Sheffield United in 2021-22 that transformed him: 12 goals and 10 assists in a Championship season that proved he was ready. Back at Wolves he could not command regular minutes, and Forest's £42.5m gamble handed him the stage his talent had been waiting for.
Pereira and a Personal Best
Pushed further forward by Vítor Pereira, Gibbs-White produced the best football of his life in 2025-26, finishing as Forest's top scorer with 15 Premier League goals. A 15-minute hat-trick sparked a 4-1 comeback win over Burnley on 19 April 2026, and he was named EA Sports Player of the Month for April. He had made his senior England debut on 7 September 2024, and reached 10 caps by 2026.
Staying Put
In July 2025, Tottenham triggered a £60m release clause in his contract, but the move stalled when Forest alleged an illegal approach and threatened legal action. Persuaded by owner Evangelos Marinakis, Gibbs-White instead signed a club-record new deal running to 2028.
