About Samuel Eto'o
Samuel Eto'o is the most decorated African footballer of all time, winning the Africa Cup of Nations twice, the Champions League three times, and Serie A, La Liga, and Premier League medals. An electric, direct forward who thrived at Barcelona (ESP) under Rijkaard and Guardiola, he formed part of the most productive attacking trio in Champions League history alongside Ronaldinho and Messi.
Samuel Eto'o's story
From Nkon to the World
Eto'o grew up in extreme poverty in Nkon, Cameroon, one of nine children. He was scouted by Real Madrid at 15 but never broke through, moving through Spanish clubs before Barcelona (ESP) signed him from Mallorca in 2004. He immediately became the focal point of one of the greatest attacking sides ever assembled.
Barcelona and Beyond
Under Rijkaard, Eto'o scored 30+ goals in back-to-back seasons alongside Ronaldinho — and under Guardiola, he was part of the treble-winning 2008–09 side. He then moved to Inter under José Mourinho where he won another treble. In the 2010 Champions League final he ran back to defend, not score, helping Mourinho win the tactical battle against Bayern.
African Football's Ambassador
After retiring as a player, Eto'o became president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) in 2021, immediately taking on FIFA and the country's government in battles over corruption and governance. He is respected as one of the most outspoken voices for African football development globally.
