About Xavi Hernández
Xavi Hernández is the greatest passing midfielder the game has ever produced. A pure product of La Masia, he spent 17 years in Barcelona (ESP)'s first team. The architect of Spain's golden generation — World Cup 2010, Euros 2008 and 2012 — he redefined what a midfielder could be: not a destroyer or scorer, but a metronomic conductor who controlled tempo, space, and the minds of opponents.
Xavi Hernández's story
La Masia Through and Through
Xavi joined Barcelona (ESP)'s La Masia academy at age 11 — living in the residence, absorbing Cruyffian philosophy. He made his first-team debut under Louis van Gaal at 18 and never left. Barcelona (ESP) held off sustained interest from Juventus and Inter because Xavi made clear: he only wanted to play for Barça.
Spain's Golden Era
Between 2008 and 2012, Spain won three consecutive major international tournaments with Xavi as their fulcrum. He was named Player of the Tournament at Euro 2008. At the 2010 World Cup he completed 91% of his passes — a tournament record. With Iniesta beside him, they were the greatest central midfield partnership in international football history.
Manager and Return
After retiring as a player in 2019, Xavi returned to manage Barcelona (ESP) in November 2021. He won La Liga in 2022–23, ending the club's drought. He lives in Barcelona (ESP) with his wife Nuria Cunillera and their children.
