Rose Lavelle's story
Cincinnati to the World Stage
Rose Lavelle was born on 14 May 1995 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She played college football at the University of Wisconsin, earning All-American honours. She was the eighth pick in the 2017 NWSL Draft by the Boston Breakers before moving to Washington Spirit.
2019 World Cup Final
France 2019 was the tournament where Lavelle became a global name. She was outstanding throughout — creative, direct, and composed under pressure. In the final against the Netherlands, with the USA leading 1–0, Lavelle picked up the ball 25 metres out, drifted past two challenges, and drove a left-footed shot into the far corner. USA 2–0. She received the Bronze Ball as the tournament's third-best player.
Club Career
After the 2019 triumph, Lavelle moved to Manchester City in England, where she spent two seasons in the WSL. She returned to the USA with OL Reign, becoming one of the marquee players in the NWSL. Injuries have occasionally disrupted her consistency but when fit she is one of the most dangerous attacking players in the game.
The Next Chapter
Lavelle won Olympic gold with the USWNT at the Tokyo 2020 Games. She continues to be a key creative force for the national team. She is known for her quiet, understated demeanour off the pitch, contrasting with her explosive presence on it.
